A Cricut? Cricket?

So my bestie has been asking me for weeks what I want for my upcoming 30th birthday. Honestly, I had no idea, my desire for "things" has kinda just disappeared after our move and I saw how much stuff we had. So I just kept saying I had no idea.

Here at the house, my creative projects were failing each time I tried something new. I was recently trying to add designs to shirts and jeans using bleach and hand-cut stencils. I went to the thrift shop and picked up a large amount of very cool gently used items. Turns out bleach doesn't work on every fabric and half the clothes I bought would not work. So then I took a beautiful flannel and learned the hard way that the bleach spreads and won't hold my designs. So I threw out a few wasted wrongly bleached clothes and started looking for other ways to get a design on a shirt. The thing I came across frequently was a Cricut. This device cuts fabrics, vinyl, cardstock, etc. I thought how cool would that be but could not afford a new one which was about $250. I started looking for used ones on craigslist and facebook marketplace. I found one and contacted the woman but after a couple responses, she ignored me and then marked sold. Defeated - I started searching back in Florida to see if someone could pick up one and ship it to me if I found a good price. I reached out to my bestie and explained the situation. She graciously agreed to help me out if I found one at a good price I could just send her the money. Well, 30 minutes later I got a text that said Happy Birthday it's yours.

Fast forward 3 days later and two boxes arrive on my doorstep from Cricut! How fast that delivery was. I texted her gushing about how excited I am and ripped into the box!

Not only did she get me the Cricut Explorer Air 2 but a whole essentials bundle.
Look at how pretty it is out of the box!

After setting it up I ran through the test which was creating a card with the cardstock they provide and a fine point pen. It drew the image and then cut the card. It was so very cool to watch, I didn't have glue handy so it's not glued down but look how cute!

I have now been looking at all the cool things I can make with the Explorer but am overwhelmed by all types of stuff I can make. I went to JoAnn's and purchased some vinyl to test out what I can do but forgot transfer paper - doh! So tonight I will test an iron-on vinyl on a simple shirt.
