Cricut - Pinterest Inspired T-Shirt

Image
One of the things I wanted the Cricut device for was making shirts so I was anxious to make my first design and print! I downloaded some free fonts from DaFont and thought about my favorite autumn things. I typed those up and printed them on heat transfer vinyl then I "weeded" out the vinyl that was not going to be on the shirt.  This is the Cricut cutting the vinyl.  Here is the vinyl once it was weeded.   This is what the sayings look like with the transfer paper on the shirt before ironing on.  This is the shirt ready to go after a 24-hour curing process.

A Cricut? Cricket?

So my bestie has been asking me for weeks what I want for my upcoming 30th birthday. Honestly, I had no idea, my desire for "things" has kinda just disappeared after our move and I saw how much stuff we had. So I just kept saying I had no idea. Here at the house, my creative projects were failing each time I tried something new. I was recently trying to add designs to shirts and jeans using bleach and hand-cut stencils. I went to the thrift shop and picked up a large amount of very cool gently used items. Turns out bleach doesn't work on every fabric and half the clothes I bought would not work. So then I took a beautiful flannel and learned the hard way that the bleach spreads and won't hold my designs. So I threw out a few wasted wrongly bleached clothes and started looking for other ways to get a design on a shirt. The thing I came across frequently was a Cricut. This device cuts fabrics, vinyl, cardstock, etc. I thought how cool would that be but could not affor...

Sourdough - First Attempt

Image
It has been quite some time since I made a sourdough starter and the first time in this new environment. So I started with some beer trub that was full of leftover beer yeast, 2 tablespoons added to 3 tablespoons flour and 4 tablespoons water. After 4 days of "feeding" my little starter friend, I had a thick starter that doubled in size each feeding. It looked like this.... I cut the starter in half - feeding the remaining half and using the other half for bread.  I added the cup of starter and 3 cups warm water then mixed the result..... After adding the water I stirred in 5 cups of regular white flour... I let the dough rest all day and before bed, I uncovered mixed and formed into two loaves. I was slightly bothered as the dough had become almost a liquid but thought I would give it a chance. Turns out by using regular white flour it took in to much moisture becoming to wet and held no shape I baked it anyway and while not pretty by any means it was ...

2 weeks later....

Well, these past three weeks have been a total let down on my crafting side. I haven't posted because I have half-finished projects and a lack of motivation to finish them. I was making a Halloween wreath and it wasn't coming together the way I had intended so I stuck it to the side in my living room. I went and got fabric and a black dress to sew into a gothic dress but the stretchy fabric of the dress when cut and resewn didn't look professional enough to attempt to sell or even gift so now that's hanging in my basement. I got these $1 pumpkin pails from Walmart with the design in mind that I could turn them into a classy fall decoration but after the spray paint flaking off when I glued them together I gave up and now its with the wreath in the corner. So what are my next steps to get reenergized about being creative? How can I hold myself accountable and maybe make this family a little money while doing it? I just don't know yet....

The Start of Halloween Season - October 1st, 2019

Image
Welcome to my blog. This blog was created with the idea of using it to encourage my own creativity and inspiration. I hope if you choose to join me you can get some inspiration too. I love to do a little bit of everything but I am not amazing at any of it. Ever since I can remeber I have had big dreams and visions but I can never seem to get those to become real life. I used to get so defeated that what I managed to create looked nothing like it did in my head, or tasted nothing like I wanted it to, or it didn't grow how I desired. So now at 29, I am starting this blog to follow my journey to creative. If there is one word to describe my creative style it would be UNCRAFTY! Now onto the good stuff. Today is the first day of the Halloween season and what I consider to be the real fall season. I love everything about Halloween. The costumes, parties, pumpkin beer, and crafts! Two months ago my husband, daughter, animals, and I moved from Tampa FL to Northwest Ohio for my husban...
